Early Interest
Jose De Urgyen was born in a village in the Sierra Morena mountains of southern Spain. His family later moved to the Pyrenees, where he grew up. At the age of 18, he got his independency. Living in his own and experiencing live in it’s fullness, he went to the into a black hole where the main aim was to enjoy sex, drugs and rock & roll so much to the extreme that he got seek physic, emotional and mental disturbed. Then at age of 20 he was called to be listed on the military service for 18 months. It was there that he turned his life from caos to disciple and decided to give up bad habits of drinking and smoking. Then for ten years he became vegetarian, he felt a calling to explore spirituality and started his spiritual journey in Menorca, Balearic Islands in Spain.
Initial Experiences
In Mencorca, Jose de Urgyen connected with various artist and spiritual group from both Western and Asain tradition, which deepened his spiritual knowldege in Kabbla & astrology and Tibetan Buddhism set the foundation for lifelong journey.
Formal Training
At 27, José de Urgyen moved to England to learn English and study from three different Tibetan Buddhism traditions ( Gelupa, Kargyupa and Nyigma ) He dedicated three years to the studying Buddhist philosophy and meditation, which equipped him with a deeper understanding of the teachings
Cultural Immersion
In the year 1990 Jose de Urgyen traveled to the Himalayas to immerse himself in Indian-Tibetan culture. He learned some Tibetan language and studied esoteric Tibetan Buddhist from some of the great masters, specially his spiritual Guru Tulku Urgyen and His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Personal Transformation
During his time in the Himalayas he did 5 years retreat where he meditated in his retrate place in Bir and traveling to Tso Pema where
he received his Dharma name (Urgyen) in a vision on the lake. After that he experienced a profound personal transformation and special conection with Padmasambhava the founder of Tibetan Buddhism. After that he when to explore and ultimately ending in discovering the Dhanakosa lake where Padmasambhava emerged in a lotus light. He explored the full mandala of this place which includes many small monuments ( statues and stupas).The main discovery apart from the lake and the only vajrayana stupa in the area is the transmission from a
statue of Buddha dating from fifth century A.C indication of the origin of vajrayana.While meditating in these sacred places he also keep practicing his martial arts ( Aikido in order to keep physical discipline with spiritual practice.
Commitment to share to his discoveries
Inspired by his journey and the teachings of Padmasambhava, Urgyen dedicated himself to sharing his knowledge and experiences through research and meditation, He now offer workshops in “ meditation in action,” integrating five universal elements with sword and helping students how to cultivate mindfulness special sword technique and movement and how to become spiritual warrior in this modern times.
Ongoing Exploration
For the last 35 years he was traveling all over the Himalayas from, north Pakistan, India, Ladahk, Tibet), Nepal, Sikkim, again and again. His discoveries, including the identification of holy sites and the origins of esoteric teachings, continue to shape his research and inspire others.
